Meet Our Staff

EF Foundation host families are special people. Although they come from different parts of New Zealand, they are connected by shared values of friendliness, dedication and a desire to do a world of good. We are happy to share the inspiring stories of how international exchange has changed their lives!

An Enriching Experience

Having “Billy” sharing our home and lifestyle has been a fun and enriching experience

Our day began slowly as we set off for beautiful Lake Karapino in Central Waikato. In true family tradition we arrived late after our trip to Auckland Zoo and MOTAT the day before.

Our picturesque spot was down at the Boatshed, well hidden from the bustling world. The greatest challenge was getting everyone kitted out and into a kayak. This included people of all shapes and sizes; plus a variety of ages and skill bases.

With superb sunny weather, we all enjoyed the magnificent scenery, plus that great sense of tranquillity. Personally not having much kayaking experience, the support for us less co-ordinated mortals was great! Chun Ho “Billy” had previously experienced kayaking in a number of countries. We were honoured to have my Auntie Kate and Uncle Phil along visiting from Melbourne.

Whilst the majority opted to take a trek up a tributary stream, where there are two waterfalls, the remainder dabbled with our kayaking whilst dreaming of owning those incredible mansions dotting the shores.

Keeping in mind kayaking is largely a non-contact sport, it is a mystery how one or two of us ended up all wet and drippy? I do not know THOSE boys! Rumour has it a teacher was also involved. A perfect ending to a great day together was our picnic beside the café. Finally we shared farewell certificates and instructions for host families and exchange students leaving shortly.

Having Chun Ho “Billy” sharing our home and lifestyle has been a fun and enriching experience for our whole extended family. It has also been great learning about Chun Ho “Billy’s” family and lifestyle in Hong Kong.

Big thanks to Mrs. Heather Stringer and EF Foundation staff for helping us make the transition, sorting our all issues and details. I know we all had a wonderful day kayaking, also we wish Chun Ho “Billy” safe travelling; many more enriching experiences; until we meet again.
